Here are
some materials that make a journalist/blogger's
life easier.
The highlights
 |
Particls
is a desktop application
that
learns what you care about and alerts
you when there's new information on
those subjects. |
 |
The first and only
aggregator to share
revenue with Publishers. |
 |
Founded by 2 Australian
'20 something'
entrepreneurs. |
 |
Received Angel funding
from Australian
investors. |
 |
Currently in public beta
- thousands of active
users. |
 |
The company is on a
mission to help people
track the content that
matters to them while
they work. It also aims
to help
publishers reach their
readers and earn extra
revenue. |
Who might be
interested in this sort of software?
Target
Market for the product includes 13-25
year old students who want their
homework right along side their mySpace
updates; Knowledge workers who want to
stay informed while they work;
Executives who want to stay alerted to
important corporate and industry
information and publishers who want to
differentiate their content with
immediate desktop alerts while
generating ongoing ad revenue.
What makes
Particls different?
From News
Readers - Particls is not a
newsreader, it is an alerts platform.
This means that information is displayed
'while you work on other things' in a
heads-up-display presentation style. In
this way users can keep working while
staying informed.
From
Widget/Gadget Engines - Particls
is not a gadget/widget engine.
Gadgets/Widgets each represent a window
into a single source of information (E.g.
"the stock quotes widget" displays stock
quotes).
In contrast, Particls
Output Adapters are each designed to consume
varying levels of user attention.
Particls evaluates an incoming
piece of information and gives it a rank
of 'Personal Relevance' to the user.
Particls
then uses the right Output Adapter so
that it consumes only the amount of
attention required for the relevancy of
the alert. We call this
The policy of Diminishing Attention
Consumption.
